Our Patron Saints

One day in 1968, Jerry Culpepper challenged Morley Fox to a game of chess. This occassion marked the beginning of Jerry's life-long love of books and a career in the book selling business.

Barbara and Morley Fox were the owners and proprietors of Fox Book Company, located in downtown Tacoma, Washington for 59 years. Morley passed away in 1978, followed by Barbara in 1998. Jerry's wife Michele Martin joined the Fox Book Company team in 1996, helping out for the last few years of the venerable bookstore's existence.

In 1999, Jerry and Michele decided to open their own book store, Culpepper Books, and they have tried to honor Barbara and Morley Fox's memory in the way the store is run. We hope Barbara and Morley would approve.
